T. S. Eliot’s "The Waste Land" -- 100 Year Anniversary

Kathleen Dixon Donnelly and Cliff Johnson
Three Wednesday Classes

January 4, 11, and 18
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The fall of 2022 marked the centenary of the U.S. and U.K. publication of T. S. Eliot’s epic poem, “The Waste Land.” In sessions one and two Dr. Donnelly will discuss the development of Eliot’s work, and the many “such friends” who supported him along the way: fellow ex-pat poet Ezra Pound, publisher Horace Liveright, lawyer and patron of the arts John Quinn and his wife, Vivien. In session three, Dr. Johnson will discuss the poem itself and its significance in early 20th century literature.
In preparation for the course, members will want to read, or re-read, "The Waste Land." You can find it online on The Poetry Foundation website: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47311/the-waste-land
